GENERAL LABOR: The worker will place irrigation lines, lay plastic mulch in the growing area, tractor operations as necessary, plant watermelons, chop weeds, pull up and dispose of plastic mulch and irrigation lines used to grow the watermelons. General clean-up and other miscellaneous farm labor duties may also be done in the field.
CUTTERS: The worker will walk down the watermelon field rows where the watermelon will be harvested. The worker will first cut the vine off the watermelon with a small knife and turn the watermelon over.
LOADERS: While the field truck is in slow movement and in a row of up to 5 workers to each side of the field truck, the worker will bend over harvesting the ripe watermelon which can vary in weight from 20lbs to 60lbs from the ground and tossing the watermelon to the worker next to him and this worker will toss the watermelon to the next worker and so on, until the watermelon is then tossed to the person inside the field truck who will place the watermelon on the floor.
UNLOADERS: When the field truck is full, the workers will unload the watermelon from the bus.
IRRIGATION MAINTENANCE: Duties will include the inspection of any broken irrigation heads, check for leaks and broken water lines, and repair as necessary. Shoveling ditches will also be required to maintain open ditch network.
WEED CONTROL: Duties include hand cultivation with hoes and chemical control with herbicides using spot sprayers.
